Such a perfect afternoon to go for a hike here in South Carolina. The leaves from last year were still hanging on and I have kind of fallen in love with them in all forms. Just one leaf…

52 Frames: Water
One of my favorite challenge themes, water! This week also marked my return to the coast, so it was almost too easy to find an image worth submitting. These three were the finalists come Sunday morning. Skidaway Island is on the coast, but it’s the part of the coast that is marshes and islands rather than sand and surf. I found this tree and its reflection on a mid-week hike. Although I’m focusing on black and white photography this year, I put a little hint of blue water into the image, just because I thought it looked cool. This view…

What, it’s already the third week of January? How can a month both fly by and seem so long? I honestly don’t know but that’s how it feels here in Wynnworlds land. I’ve been reading a lot, cracked a few (tiny) bottles of Prosecco on Jan 20th, and done a lot of walking with camera in hand. I’ll start and end this post with coastal shots from Hunting Island, South Carolina, while the middle part showcases Skidaway Island in Georgia. Let’s go! Lesson from an Egret This Great Egret visited me a lot when I was at Hunting Island State…

I’ve gone back to a photography practice I did for several years, marking each day with a photo, so that at the end of the year, I had 365 (if it all went well) memories of that year. I had this idea of doing posts that scoop up my favorite photos from each week, but I got just a bit distracted around January 8th. Hmm… At least I am getting out for daily walks and taking my camera along, so that’s a bit of consistency on what has started out as another incredibly weird year. Lensbaby Learning One of my…
Like the Heron
I startled a great blue heron on my walk this morning. They took flight, beating their wings and squawking at my interruption of their idyllic moment in the sun. It’s not a great photo because I barely had time to turn on the camera before that heron was out of range. I had the wrong lens for this kind of shot. The light wasn’t good. And yet, I love this photo because it captures the moment. I watched as the heron dipped low over the palms looking for a new place to rest. I’m taking that bird as an omen…
