One of my favorite challenge themes, water! This week also marked my return to the coast, so it was almost too easy to find an image worth submitting. These three were the finalists come Sunday morning.

Skidaway Island is on the coast, but it’s the part of the coast that is marshes and islands rather than sand and surf. I found this tree and its reflection on a mid-week hike. Although I’m focusing on black and white photography this year, I put a little hint of blue water into the image, just because I thought it looked cool.

This view under the pier at Myrtle Beach captivated me. I’ve been back three times in different light and times of day to play with composition. I like that little “door” at the end so much.

It’s been a cold and somewhat windy weekend at the beach, but, to me, the surf never disappoints. What I wanted to emphasize in this image was how the the incoming wave turns white with foam as it makes landfall. If you need an escape today, please, put yourself on this sandy beach and take a virtual walk down to the pier and back. Bundle up, it’s cold, but it’s worth it.
In the end, I could only submit one image. Which one do you think I chose?
For whatever we lose (like a you or a me) it’s always ourselves we find in the sea.

I love them all. Each one exudes it’s own unique feeling. I’m guessing you went with #2 🙂
Absolutely the full pier. You take some beautiful pics.
What I like about the latter two is the sense of peace and tranquility they exude. The first one strikes me as having too much going on in the frame.
I like the two at Myrtle Beach though cannot decide which I like best!
Skidaway Island, GA, hands down. Why so enthusiastic? The symmetry and black and white tones in the other two photos are top notch, but I find human geometric lines/angles easy to discover and capture (after all, we humans fabricated them in the first place). In contrast (excuse the pun), capturing the symmetry in the natural landscape is much more happenstance requiring a time and place that often can not be repeated. Perhaps all this can be said of the other two as well, but I think the natural landscape creates more mystery and profound depth. So goes my bias – oh, and before I forget: thanks so much for sharing these and all the others: a bit of brightness for our worlds, much appreciated.
It’s a toss-up between Skidaway Island or Myrtle Beach. The simplicity of Myrtle Beach having great contrast, no visitors plus that great lead-in of the water’s edge gets my nod the more that I compare them.
Anne, I would submit the shore line. I love photos that direct my eye. The surf grabbed my eye and swiftly whipped it up the shore line where it met the the pier landing. Then took me out gradually to the end of the pier. I kept looking at the photo and it kept doing that! The photo engaged me.
I love reflective photos and I loved that you added a touch of blue. I did not see that at first. I has to go and look for it, so subtle.
I like that you did not take the pier shot straight on. To be honest I did not see the door shape. I was stopped by looking at the angled rafters to the right. Loved the lighting!
Let me know which one you submit in the end. Take care and be safe.

I like reflection shots, so my guess is the reflected tree.
