When I remember the very nervous and pretty clueless me that picked up that Alto 1743 trailer one thousand days ago from the Safari Condo showroom in Quebec, I really feel for her. I had never towed anything before, and despite much advice to try it first with a rental trailer or something from U-Haul, I didn’t do that. I was committed to this “full-timing in a trailer” thing, and I figured if I tried another trailer and it sucked, then I would lose my nerve entirely and I didn’t have a Plan B for that possibility. I’d work out…

The Shape of Trees
I pulled into the Hunting Island campground and made camp so quickly that it’s only the next morning I realized I didn’t put on the hitch lock, tuck away the electronics, or even fill up the water tank. Why the rush? After two hurricanes along this stretch of coast last fall, I was anxious to see if my favorite tree was still standing. I fairly flew down the beach, straining my eyes against the bright sun, hoping against hope it had withstood the onslaught of both Florence and Michael. Then, suddenly, there it was. 2018 Top Ten
For the last five years, I’ve made a concerted effort to take at least one photo a day. Sometimes it’s a silly one that captures the day… Most of the time, though, times I put more effort into it. At the end of the year, I pick the 10 best as an exercise to see how my photography practice has improved year on year. So, without further ado, here’s thumbnails of 2018’s top 10 images. Bonus: You can get full-sized images of them at my smugmug site. Twelve significant photos in one year is a good crop. Ansel Adams
Tree Bones
Florida, as it turns out, has barrier islands, too, and that’s where I’m exploring this week. My first beach walk was fantastic – all kinds of downed trees and branches, the remnants of hurricanes that have hit this coast steadily over the years. There are some seriously twisted shapes on this beach and I need to come back here with my good camera and play around. This is my favorite one so far. It looks like a witch might look if a witch was a tree. Stay tuned for more… The Coastal Images Tour has just started and all sorts…
On the Road Again
The Alto has been liberated from its backyard spot, the hitch is back on the Subaru, and I woke up this morning to this view… Yes, I’m on the road again. Two and a half months in Gainesville was a wonderful refresher. I caught a few music shows, checked out an arts and crafts fair, borrowed a zillion paper library books, walked all over town, and, most fun of all, hung out with my friends and their friends. More importantly, I had time to think about how I want to go forward, and why, and those were questions I needed…
