Ah, Utah and those legendary National Parks! In more than five years of full-timing in my Alto, I hadn’t yet made it to Utah. Sure, I’d been to Utah a few times before full-timing: a work trip to Salt Lake City, seeing friends in Park City, that sort of thing. But I’d never managed to get to southern Utah or, for that matter, northern Arizona or the southwestern corner of Colorado. I remember my Dad talking about Bryce and Zion as some of the most amazing places he’d ever seen. I was maybe 11 or 12 years old, but something…

Ten for Tuesday
I spent the last month in the wilderness, from the Great Sand Dunes in CO to the might five National Parks of Utah and then down to the north rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. As you might imagine, I’ve got a lot of photos. Until I write about the trip, here’s a “thanks for waiting for me” present, my (so far) top ten favorite images from the trip. A Month Away: Digital Retreat
I’m going to be offline the next four weeks, from Sep 11 to Oct 9. I’ll be taking this time to rest and retreat into silence, reading, and thinking. No blog posts, no Facebook or Messenger, no Instagram or Twitter. I want to be in the moment as I see places new to me and not worry about finding a cell signal or putting out a timely blog post. If you miss reading my posts, check out the Adventures page to catch up on some of my past journeys. Or surf the travel maps! Astute readers will spot that I’ll…
Finding the Center
No, this isn’t one of those touchy-feeling posts about finding MY center. This is all about finding the geographic center of North America and of the USA. And that’s not as cut and dried as you might think. Well, the geographic center of North America actually is. No one is arguing that it’s in Rugby, North Dakota, a place I visited in 2016 on my way to pick up my Alto trailer in Quebec.
52 Frames: Summer Shots
Yes, it’s another four weeks of photos submitted to 52 Frames. Three of the four are from Minnesota, so if you haven’t seen much of that state, you’re in for a treat. It’s gorgeous! I’m not sure if people find these posts interesting or not, so leave a comment with your favorite of the four if you read this 🙂 Week 30: Distorted Place: Lake Superior, Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, Michigan I spent a week with this view and this image best captures how I feel about the lake and the cool breezes and chilly waters. There’s not just…
