I startled a great blue heron on my walk this morning. They took flight, beating their wings and squawking at my interruption of their idyllic moment in the sun.
It’s not a great photo because I barely had time to turn on the camera before that heron was out of range. I had the wrong lens for this kind of shot. The light wasn’t good. And yet, I love this photo because it captures the moment.
I watched as the heron dipped low over the palms looking for a new place to rest.
I’m taking that bird as an omen of good things to come. After resting in place for a few months here in Florida, I’m taking flight like that great blue heron and heading for a new spot. Let the journey begin.
The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.

Hello Annie , I have been following your blog and you have inspired me to join 52 Frames. I want the encouragement of a weekly photograph to help me notice the world around me, I’ll take my pictures with my Android phone or iPad and I don’t (yet) aspire to be called a photographer that you are. Thanks for the encouragement by example.
