I feel like I’ve given short shrift to Quebec because it was toward the end of a long trip and there was such a social whirl involved in most of the stops I made in that province. So today I’m featuring some images that make me smile and remember beautiful places I saw earlier this month. On a hike with my friends Michel and Claudette, we saw this field of wild purple irises at Parc du Bic. And not two minutes away was this reflecting pool, nothing more than water trapped by rocks as the tide went out. Ephemeral and…
Month: July 2018
Weekly Update: Jul 25, 2018
This was a whirlwind of a week, kicked off by Breeze’s spa day at the Safari Condo service facility. I’m very happy with the updates and my shiny new window. Thursday I headed to my last Canadian stop, Frontenanc National Park. The drive was two hours of rolling hills, dairy farms, and just beautiful and peaceful scenery, one of the most relaxing moves I’ve done in my two-plus years. My spot was great: mostly shady and with enough room I could set up my new awning and outdoor mat. After all this time, I finally feel like I have a…
Breeze’s Spa Day
It probably says something that I got way more excited (and stressed out) about Breeze, my trailer, having a spa day than I ever have for me getting one! But after 26 months of use and 26,000 miles (42,000 kilometers), it was time. I had a list of things that needed fixing, things that needed maintenance, and some upgrades I wanted. Weekly Update: Jul 18, 2018
I’m going to cheat just a bit this week, since Wednesday is the day my trailer has a date at the beauty parlor all day (aka the service department at Safari Condo), where all sorts of things will be happening to the inside and the outside of Breeze. Not sure where I will be while this is going on, so I’ll just summarize the week minus a day 🙂 When y’all left me last week, I was at a riverside campground in the countryside southeast of Quebec City. This place, La Jolie Rochelle, was wonderful and we filled the riverside…
Friday Fun: Groceries in Quebec
(En français: épiceries au québec) One of the most interesting ways to learn about a new place is to wander through a grocery store. You learn how much fresh and local is valued in the rest of the world outside the US and can explore foods unique to the place you’re in. This post, then, aims to give you a sense of what it’s like to shop for groceries in a small grocery store in a town in the Quebec countryside. First, most of the labels are in French, so get ready to test out the accuracy of google translate!…
