Some weeks, I get really into the 52 Frames challenge and this was one of those weeks. The theme was “common object. I’m camping in a forest. Common object? Gotta be a leaf! This was also one of those weeks where three things were true: My first concept was my only concept. I fell in love with my first idea and didn’t even try anything else. Small changes in an image can make a huge difference. Post-processing can be a lot of fun. The Concept As I was talking on the phone to a friend, I noticed how the leaves…

Changing Up the Website
Maybe it’s the days of rain or that fact that the website hasn’t had a facelift in four years, but something clicked yesterday and I got to work. Cleaned out boring categories, simplified the menus at the top, and started thinking about what I can write next. So without further ado, enjoy the newly reorganized website! Journal: Where I write about whatever I want. Vagabond Life: Living on the road, solo female style. Trailer Life: From Alto articles to trip planning and what I use and recommend, this is good stuff. Adventures: Find cool places to visit, from back roads…
52 Frames: Catching Up on It
I’m a little behind on my posts these days, so I’m going to whip through three weeks of challenges in one post. Let’s get started! I decided that I would take two of my favorite views on my hikes and learn new post-processing techniques. I like sepia tones, but I’d…
52 Frames: Water
If you’ve followed my blog for more than two minutes, you’ve probably guessed that water is one of my favorite things, whether is ocean or lake, waterfall or meandering stream. So when last week’s challenge email announced that the theme was water, I was all over it. I was camping by two lakes and would see a third one on the weekend the photo was due. An embarrassment of riches after some challenges where I struggled with the theme. I went kayaking one morning, taking my iPhone with me in its waterproof case. I’d hoped for some white puffy clouds,…
52Frames: Complementary Colors
For someone who’s becoming more and more attracted to black and white images, the photography challenge of complementary colors was an eye-opener. All week, I was SO aware of colors. Turns out the recycling bins in Gainesville are complementary colors. Who would have thought about that, if not for this challenge? In the beginning… I took a lot of flower photos and then used the diptic app to see if I could make a foursquare of them. I liked the flowers on the left way more than the ones on the right, which got me to thinking… Looking for inspiration……
