I’m still hanging out in Lancaster while fitting in a few weeks of hand therapy. The good news is the doctor is pleased with the healing so far and doesn’t see any permanent damage. The bad news is the hand doesn’t work very well yet. I am learning patience and persistence. And lots of OT exercises. All day, every day. It’s been a busy week, so Wednesday slipped by me without a sound, and it wasn’t till this morning that I realized the weekly update was overdue. Oops! Last week I arrived in Pennsylvania, seeing Gettysburg as I drove to friends in Lancaster, where I’ve been happily ensconced in their guest room. Their generosity has made it possible for me to get to a good hand doctor, who removed the cast (YAY!) and started me on therapy. I’m still wearing the hand cast so this week’s update is once again short on words. It’s a pain to type and the dictation software on my Mac isn’t getting any smarter about understanding what I say. For a writer, having only one good hand is truly aggravating. Most of this last week I was camping at Stone Mountain State Park in North Carolina, along with about 100 friends and 44 Alto trailers. Driving the the back roads of Tennessee and North Carolina, you’re bound to see something like this. Several times, as a matter of fact. I like it. It lets me know I’m definitely not in the big city anymore. The Watauga Dam campground, where I spent the last week, was truly a delight. Although my cast precluded any paddling, I enjoyed watching others get out on the water. these fishermen reminded me of my cousin, Ray, who loves to put a line in the water.
