It’s been a busy week, so Wednesday slipped by me without a sound, and it wasn’t till this morning that I realized the weekly update was overdue. Oops!
Last week I arrived in Pennsylvania, seeing Gettysburg as I drove to friends in Lancaster, where I’ve been happily ensconced in their guest room. Their generosity has made it possible for me to get to a good hand doctor, who removed the cast (YAY!) and started me on therapy. I know from knee rehab that patience and persistence win out, so I started gentle stretches and heat right away. At Monday’s first session, I could only touch thumb to one finger; by Wednesday morning, I could do thumb to all fingers, albeit slowly and slightly wincing with the ring finger (the one that got dislocated). So I’m making progress on flexibility, and hoping the strength comes back after that.
My friend Peg and I took some time to wander around the Central Market in Lancaster, selecting dinner and snack items along the way. The moon pies were fantastic (chocolate mint!), as was the fresh pasta and the crab eggrolls we picked out. I definitely could shop here more!
I did get my fireworks in, a day early. The local country club had a display on July 3rd so we watched that, complete with the big boomers at the end that totally make a fireworks show for me. I didn’t bring the camera, so no pics of it, though.
Peg has a beautiful garden, so every day I go out and take some photos of the newest day lilies to show up. This one is my favorite so far because the petals are so delicate. It lends itself to editing the color down to play up the texture.
The week ended (on Wednesday, since that’s my week as far as these updates go) with a visit to the beautiful Longwood Gardens and an evening concert by Natalie Merchant. She’s a unique talent, and the string section was wonderful, so I quite enjoyed it. Before the music, we wandered around the Gardens and of course I took photos.
I’ll be in Lancaster another week to get more physical therapy and also to get myself back into trailer living. Now that I have about 1.5 hands, I think I can actually cook and clean up, so on Sunday, Breeze and I will move to the local KOA for a week of vagabond therapy.
