Three days into the new year, and so far, so good! I ushered in the New Year at a quiet campground in New Mexico. How quiet? No fireworks, no loud parties, just a big old moon (and later, Orion overhead) to usher in 2018. It was lovely. Wednesday and Thursday nights: Plomosa BLM, Quartzsite AZ was a beautiful stop and pretty well deserted the last few days of 2017. That’s my tiny trailer with no one around me for at least a quarter-mile 🙂 I was fighting back a cold so two days of desert air with lots of sleep…

Weekly Update: Dec 27, 2017
Wow, last update of 2017, and, as might be expected, it’s full of family and friends and all good things of the holiday season. Hung out with friends in Pasadena, met the new baby, who is, of course, totally adorable (honorary aunthood confirmed), and even had a little birthday party for mom-to-be (who’s due any day now!). Hung out with nephew and wife and two kids with pizza in Fontana, remembered that three year olds never stop moving and mostly run everywhere! Saw The Last Jedi in 3D with a recliner seat. Two thumbs up! No spoilers. Saturday was the…
Weekly Update: Dec 20, 2017
A day late, a dollar short (well, more than that thanks to holiday shopping!), but here’s the weekly update… From the coastal views in Santa Cruz to the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas to the confines of a very busy RV park in the heart of LA freeways is definitely a shift in perspective and scenery to fit into one week. The highlight of the drive across the state west to east was seeing both Coalinga and Visalia, two towns I’ve always wanted to see. Now I can cross them off my list 🙂 I spent two nights inside Sequoia…
Weekly Update: Dec 13, 2017
Every morning for the past week, this has been my view stepping outside my trailer. Man, sunrise on Monterey Bay just does NOT get old. And this is the beach I walked on almost every day. Again, never gets old. My campsite was on the bluff overlooking the beach, and this view is looking straight out from my picnic table. I did some playing around with HDR photography this week for a photo challenge, and liked how it played up the tones of the fragmites (those frond things) and deepened the overcast skies (thanks, Thomas Fire, for all that haze……
Weekly Update: Dec 6, 2017
Wait, where the heck did 2017 go? It’s already December? I know where the last three months went, it’s right here on the map: coast to coast, from September 5 to December 5, racking up 5200 miles. Not the most direct route, but a fun one with lots of family and friends along the way. Now that I’ve made it through that meandering line across the US, I’m going to enjoy California for a month. I’m back in Santa Cruz for a week or so, enjoying my west coast home and catching up with friends and enjoying the beach. Let’s…
