There are few museums that I can’t describe in a half-dozen photos and some text. This is one of those. It’s the first museum I’ve visited that documents and explains the treatment of the First Americans from their point of view, from initial encounters with outsiders to the present day. This is a place of truth, of telling the lived experiences of the 39 tribes that now reside in Oklahoma. It’s not an easy place to visit, nor a quick in-and-out experience. Skeletons: Museum of Osteology, OK
Drive out of the traffic and noise of downtown Oklahoma City, aim for the flat lands to the southeast, and look for a brown building next to a big warehouse. Congratulations, you’ve arrived at the Museum of Osteology, more commonly known around these parts as the Skeleton Museum. And, oh, is it worth the drive!

On April 19, 1995, two domestic terrorists set off a bomb in front of a federal building in downtown Oklahoma City, killing 168 people and injuring hundreds of others.
