Sometimes it’s all about the timing, as I’ve been reminded lately. Like today… I got up to a rainy Sunday today, but slogged through a long walk, determined to get my steps done for the day. I walked all the way to the start of the nature trails here, only to find fog and rain waiting for me. Still, I did get one good shot. I slogged back home, just as the rain ended. Such was my timing. I stayed inside, drying out and warming up for a while, and then realized with a start that the sun had showed…

Acadia National Park
To end the workweek on a high note for you, here’s five beautiful views of Acadia. For those who have never been here and may never get here, I’m trying to capture the beauty for you. The rocky scenery of Otter Cliffs is breathtaking, classic downeast Maine coastline. On a sunny day, it’s clear Spring is in the air! Even on a foggy day, the Acadia coast is beautiful. And you can scamper out onto those rocks for a better view or to simply sit and let it all soak into your soul. There are so many things here to…
Weekly Update: May 16, 2018
I’m getting closer… one of my big goals this year is to spend time exploring completely new places and eastern Canada is the one I’ve been aiming for the last few months as I camped my way up the east coast of the US. Once this map was filled with red pins, now it’s all green, with the blue showing my current location, about 100 miles away from the Canadian border. I’m ready to go. But first… I spent the end of last week at Salisbury Beach, which was mostly full of overcast skies broken by brief bouts of brilliant…
Acadia National Park
I’m in Maine! I’m at Acadia! It’s been like a gazillion years since I was here last, back when I lived in the Boston area and ran half-marathons, so at least 20 years ago, and probably a half dozen more years than that. Probably only my friend Cindy, my erstwhile roommate on those trips, knows for sure. Anyhoo, it’s beautiful here, if a bit cold and windy. The Maine coast has that salty air that I swear nowhere else on earth does, and I have been taking deep breaths of it walking along the park trails. I went for a…
Sunday Serenity: One Small Thing
There’s a lot going on in the world these days: political divides, racial profiling, #MeToo, and so much more. Sometimes I wonder what difference on my one life can make on a daily basis. I remember a long time ago, when my dad came to a festival I was working at, on the Hudson River in Beacon. He saw an old guy picking up the papers and napkins people had dropped. A few hours later, he saw that same guy standing on the small stage, getting everyone to sing “Sailing Up, Sailing Down” as he played the banjo. That was…
