My dinner Saturday night came with three fortune cookies, all apt for looking back at the year since I retired. I did take the chance to leave full-time work and strike out on the vagabond trail with my little trailer. I’ve not been daring enough to do any boondocking on my own, so that’s a goal for the next year. That’s one chance I’ll be learning to take. I’m sure there are more ahead, I just can’t name them yet. Onward and upward! I originally thought endurance referred to the almost constant motion of being a vagabond but then the…
Month: August 2017
Weekly Update: Aug 16, 2017
Still on Cape Cod, still doing hand therapy twice a week plus self-guided sessions 4x a day, still doing beach walks. It’s been a fun place to hang out, and if only I didn’t have to do all the hand stuff, I’d probably say it was a beach bum week with great sunsets. The one above was just down the street, on a meadow-lined path to the beach. And this one was Tuesday night at Quissett Harbor. I need to go back there and do some more photography. I did do some real work, got a dashcam on sale at…
Seattle by the Sea
It’s been a year this week since I left Seattle after four years of living and working there, and I do miss it. Summer is a glorious time in the Pacific Northwest: blue skies, blue water, cool breezes, and sunshine. From October to May, it’s grey skies and gloom, but the summer makes up for it in a big, big way. So come along with me on my last ferry ride out of Seattle a year ago… The skyline always makes me smile, from seeing the Space needle to Columbus Tower at the southern end. Somewhere in there was where…
Sunday Serenity: Grim Reality
I have been reading the news and my heart just can’t make sense of it. Why on earth, in America, do we have neo-Nazis giving salutes and fomenting hatred of others? And why, in America, do we have a President who will not call them out for it, who does not say this is completely unacceptable? I am angry, I am sad, I am frustrated. I wonder what will become of us. And don’t even get me started on the handling of North Korea. Who in their right minds wants to start a nuclear war? Let’s get out of the…
Color
I just watched a short video of Jim Carrey, the artist (yeah, also the actor and comedian) and it was fantastic to watch him playing with paint and color and form. It’s a short video, and I highly recommend watching the six-minute video if you need a boost, creative or otherwise. It inspired me to go find the most colorful things in my photo catalog, and it turns out they are from my favorite place in Seattle, the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum. And the things I have photographed the most, trying to find the perfect image, are the ikebana…
