I have been reading the news and my heart just can’t make sense of it. Why on earth, in America, do we have neo-Nazis giving salutes and fomenting hatred of others? And why, in America, do we have a President who will not call them out for it, who does not say this is completely unacceptable? I am angry, I am sad, I am frustrated. I wonder what will become of us.
And don’t even get me started on the handling of North Korea. Who in their right minds wants to start a nuclear war? Let’s get out of the wars we’re in, and not add Venezuela to the list of places we’re sending American soldiers.
Our collective humanity has taken a big hit this week. Civility within our country, and diplomacy to other nations has all but disappeared. Is this the country we want to be?
Who knows the way forward? Who can lead us there? Or is it time for us to stop pinning our hopes on this leader or that one, and take the actions ourselves to embrace diversity, show love and strength, and rebuild our country as a civilized nation? I am just one voice, but I am making that voice heard. You can, too. And if enough of us speak up for what is just and fair and, yes, loving, then we can drown out the voices of hate and evil. I truly believe that.
It’s difficult in times like these: ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us, only to be crushed by grim reality. It’s a wonder I haven’t abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.

Thank you Annie. Well said.
Thank you……
You are one of the most beautiful writers I have ever read. What an amazing gift your writing is; that came along with ordering an Alto. Each week I look forward to your blog and quote. ‘Grim Reality’ is so powerful- inspiring, heartbreaking- I read it out loud to my husband and was in tears at the end. Your words stay with me, Thank you!
Well and simply said, thank you.
