Martinsville Speedway

Posted on August 31, 2018August 31, 2020 by Annie

Let’s just say this post really has an audience of one: my brother. We talked about Martinsville when we were hanging out at Bristol, and how my dad would always call it “the paperclip” track because it’s got long straightways and tight corners. Same half-mile distance as Bristol, but different as night and day. Martinsville is open and long, not ringed all the way around with seating. At Bristol, I had to pay to take a tour to get on the track. Martinsville? I just drove up to the turn 4 gate and parked, then walked right onto the track…

Weekly Update: Jul 25, 2018

Posted on July 25, 2018August 31, 2020 by Annie

This was a whirlwind of a week, kicked off by Breeze’s spa day at the Safari Condo service facility. I’m very happy with the updates and my shiny new window. Thursday I headed to my last Canadian stop, Frontenanc National Park. The drive was two hours of rolling hills, dairy farms, and just beautiful and peaceful scenery, one of the most relaxing moves I’ve done in my two-plus years. My spot was great: mostly shady and with enough room I could set up my new awning and outdoor mat. After all this time, I finally feel like I have a…

Acadia National Park

Posted on May 18, 2018April 2, 2019 by Annie

To end the workweek on a high note for you, here’s five beautiful views of Acadia. For those who have never been here and may never get here, I’m trying to capture the beauty for you. The rocky scenery of Otter Cliffs is breathtaking, classic downeast Maine coastline. On a sunny day, it’s clear Spring is in the air! Even on a foggy day, the Acadia coast is beautiful. And you can scamper out onto those rocks for a better view or to simply sit and let it all soak into your soul. There are so many things here to…

Acadia National Park

Posted on May 15, 2018April 2, 2019 by Annie

I’m in Maine! I’m at Acadia! It’s been like a gazillion years since I was here last, back when I lived in the Boston area and ran half-marathons, so at least 20 years ago, and probably a half dozen more years than that. Probably only my friend Cindy, my erstwhile roommate on those trips, knows for sure. Anyhoo, it’s beautiful here, if a bit cold and windy. The Maine coast has that salty air that I swear nowhere else on earth does, and I have been taking deep breaths of it walking along the park trails. I went for a…

Washington DC

Posted on May 4, 2018April 2, 2019 by Annie

We hear a lot about Washington DC these days, but whatever your politics are, this city is more than that. The buildings are a reminder of the ideals we hold true as a nation. Walking by them is not something I can ever do lightly, no matter how many times I see them. Decisions that affect our lives are made voted on under that white dome, the home of the House and Senate chambers. Last time I was here, it was mostly hidden under scaffolding; this time it gleamed in the bright sunshine and I felt more optimistic just seeing…
