When I remember the very nervous and pretty clueless me that picked up that Alto 1743 trailer one thousand days ago from the Safari Condo showroom in Quebec, I really feel for her. I had never towed anything before, and despite much advice to try it first with a rental trailer or something from U-Haul, I didn’t do that. I was committed to this “full-timing in a trailer” thing, and I figured if I tried another trailer and it sucked, then I would lose my nerve entirely and I didn’t have a Plan B for that possibility. I’d work out…

Less and More
I’ve been debating my social media activities for the last several weeks. Instead of being fun, keeping up on various social media platforms feels like work. It feels like a lot of work and that’s the last thing I want. So I asked myself “What are my goals with social media?” Facebook keeps me in touch with friends from different past lives as well as my current one. As a vagabond, I find it a very handy way to keep tabs on what’s going on with people, from seeing baby Amelia’s monthly growth to wishing people happy birthdays to planning…

It’s been a quiet week but strolling around Gainesville provides a lot of photo ops, so this week features the strange and wonderful city that is my recently adopted home. Gainesville has a ton of trees, of all sizes and shapes, and when the sun is out, it pays to look up at the treetops. The local utility has a plant in town and this week I finally went down there to take some shots. It has great potential for future photo sessions. Another day, I stumbled across Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, the home of the oldest black congregation…

I have to say, living in Florida definitely beats those cold northern temps my friends have been enduring lately. I almost hate to post this photo of me and my friend, Sherry, kayaking on Friday. Almost. We explored the waterfront of Sarasota Bay and saw two dolphins (mother and child), one osprey diving for food, several pelicans (YAY!), and one wedding (onshore). Sarasota is a new place for me, and this Ringling mansion (winter home of one of the Ringling Brothers of circus fame) was definitely the fanciest building I’ve seen in a while. Sherry and her husband were hosting…
Weekly Update: Nov 21, 2019
Another quiet week here in northern Florida, with a mix of weather so hot we were in the pool, so cold we had the heat on, and so rainy that things got pretty muddy outside the Alto, all in the space of seven days. Go figure. And then walking around the neighborhood, I saw this and I don’t quite know what to make of it. I’m also not sure what to do with this, a magazine display at the local Publix grocery store. It’s a little different than I’m used to being what some might call a #liberalsnowflake (and I’m…
