Skidaway Island State Park, GA

Posted on July 23, 2020August 18, 2023 by Annie

But — and this is a huge but here — I had never visited Skidaway in high summer. It’s actually hella hot and humid and I was completely disincented to go much of anywhere, to be honest. The daily highs are low 90s and the low on Tuesday morning (THE LOW)…

70 Years Ago: A Family Story

Posted on July 21, 2020November 30, 2022 by Annie

The bride wore a lace-covered white dress and the groom sported the same suit he’d worn to his best man’s wedding a few weeks before. There was a fancy reception and, later, a fancy album of formal wedding pictures to document the event. Only these two people didn’t actually get married on July 21, 1950. They’d eloped to Vegas in…

Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, FL

Posted on July 20, 2020August 18, 2023 by Annie

Note: When I started this vagabond life, I wrote weekly updates. After a few years, I moved on to occasional posts but they became pretty random. I’m trying something new this time around, borrowing the format my friend, Alissa, uses. She posts by campground, with details — good and bad — of the campground, the campsite, and the surrounding area. Seems like a good time to start doing new things, so here’s the first one of its kind. Oh, and here’s a link to Alissa’s travel blog. When I finally got back on the road after 4.5 months, I didn’t…

52Frames: Complementary Colors

Posted on July 8, 2020December 1, 2022 by Annie

For someone who’s becoming more and more attracted to black and white images, the photography challenge of complementary colors was an eye-opener. All week, I was SO aware of colors. Turns out the recycling bins in Gainesville are complementary colors. Who would have thought about that, if not for this challenge? In the beginning… I took a lot of flower photos and then used the diptic app to see if I could make a foursquare of them. I liked the flowers on the left way more than the ones on the right, which got me to thinking… Looking for inspiration……

Vagabond Life in 2020

Posted on July 5, 2020December 1, 2022 by Annie

Where have I been, you might be wondering? A full-time traveler in time of pandemic is not the role to be playing, as it turns out. Four years ago, when I was getting ready to becoming a full-time vagabond, I worried about a broken leg, a blown tire, a stolen whatever. Never in a million years did “pandemic” show up on the list. But here we are… and it’s been an interesting four months dealing with life taking a hard left turn. I arrived in Gainesville, Florida on Feb 27th, thinking I would buy the Ridgeline, get the Outback fixed…
