Brockville Tunnel, Canada

Posted on June 20, 2023June 16, 2023 by Annie

I probably never would have gone to see this thing if it hadn’t been for my friend, Kyle Sullivan.

Watkins Glen: A Day at the Races

Posted on June 18, 2023June 16, 2023 by Annie

Last year, I was at Watkins Glen camping, but the raceway was closed. This time, though, it was wide open on the weekend, hosting the SCCA circuit, which ranges from Mini Coopers to open-wheel to NASCAR-style stock cars. Oh, yeah, I had a great time and I’ll try to explain the reasons why.

Corning Museum of Glass (NY), 2023

Posted on June 16, 2023 by Annie

This is my third visit to the Museum of Glass in Corning since 2017. I could probably go every day for a month and not be bored. But then, when you love glass in all shapes and sizes and uses, this place is pretty close to Nirvana. Such beautiful things, and so many of them!

Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, SC

Posted on June 14, 2023 by Annie

Charleston has a complicated history, one rooted in plantations and enslavement. It’s hard to address those in the context of a “fine arts” museum, but the curatorial team at Gibbes Museum has handled it well. This is a place of old and new, with nods to both the recent and centuries-old past as well as introducing the visitor to artists on their way up. I really enjoyed my visit, learning about new eras in American art as well as how blended and yet separated our experiences are throughout history.

Spring Orphans, B&W Edition

Posted on June 14, 2023June 8, 2023 by Annie

Before the last of Spring disappears, I’ll post some of my favorite images that didn’t quite find a home in previous posts. All of them have two things in common: all of them were taken in the South and all of them are minus the usual color palette because I liked them better this way.
