I probably never would have gone to see this thing if it hadn’t been for my friend, Kyle Sullivan.
When I was down in Birmingham, Alabama visiting him a couple years ago, he showed me this downtown tunnel with light effects, and I had to admit it was actually pretty fun. So when I found out Brockville had a lighted train tunnel, I had to go. This one’s for you, Kyle…

I parked at the north end of the Brockville Tunnel, just behind a Tim Horton’s. I’m betting this end is the less exciting way to start because the south end had bigger, better light displays. Oh, well, it’s a short tunnel. About halfway down to the south end, the lights really kicked in.

Oh, it was fun to wait and see the changes. Some were subtle until you realized what had been copper was now green (a nice nod to verdigris) or lavender. Sometimes, a single color shoots down the length of the tunnel so quickly that if you blink, you might miss it.

Next time you have the chance to see a lighted tunnel, you really need to check it out. It’s surprisingly fun!
Fear not the unknown. It is a sea of possibilities.

Wow!!! I’ve never heard of such a thing, but now I want to go there! It looks magical, and your photos are wonderful.
Hello Annie, toured that a while back with friends who live in Brockville. Loved it. How long are you staying in this area. Would love to meet up if possible. Are you heading to St. Frederic?
Never heard of such a thing. Thanks!
I had to rush the last half, I was getting quickly overtaken by a school bus-worth of kids!
That’s cool! Here in Michigan, at the Detroit airport there’s a terminal that’s set away from the main terminal and you have to go through a tunnel to get out there. They have all sorts of music and light displays in there, which makes it fun.
Rebecca and I have been there, too, as we have friends in town. It’s a cool place! Amazing that you got photos without people.
Very cool, Annie! And you photographed it so beautifully.
Ditto from a former Ottawa family.
How impressive Annie that you have discovered and went to this illuminated light show in these tunnels!
What an amazing reuse & now an attraction of redundant heritage railroad tunnels. It is the best kept secret that most Ontarians and most of us in Ottawa (whom only live 1.5 hrs away) are not aware of. Lately, a few weeks ago they got a write-up in our local paper. Last year we heard about them from a fellow camper and have been intending to take a drive to walk through them but have not made it yet,..
Thanks fo sharing, we will now definitely go to see them!
