I’m going through my photos from this year and printing some out to hang in my trailer. It took me a while but I finally picked six that feel representative of my year thus far. Since I enjoy looking at them enough to put them up on the wall, I figured you might enjoy my picks, too…
I’ll put my favorite first, this tree from my campsite at Oliver Lee State Park, in New Mexico. I took photos of this tree in every kind of weather, but this sunset one is my favorite of them all. It’s a good reminder, too, of the time I spent at Oliver Lee this winter.
I spent the first few months of the year in New Mexico. This view of the Caballo Mountains from across the Rio Grande while camping at Caballo Lake State Park never got old. The light in New Mexico is really amazing, no matter the weather.
In upstate New York, this old barn captivated me. The bright blue sky and vibrant green grass contrasted so well with the worn wood of the building.
A few hours away, the sunset over the west bank of the Hudson River was almost too gorgeous for words. One of the perks of camping at Schodack Island State Park is that it sits on the east bank of the Hudson.
In Pennsylvania, I went with friends to Longwood Gardens for the evening show, but it was this bird of paradise that caught my camera’s eye. My parents weren’t much for gardening but we did have one of these plants by the back door and I always loved seeing a new bloom appear.
This fall saw me camping near Kerr Lake for most of October, and the sunsets were spectacular. This one, taken while standing next to my friend, brings me happy memories of shared camping adventures.
I’ve got the photos printed out and now I just need to mount them and hang them up. Until that’s done, I’ll just enjoy my own blog post 🙂
(For those counting, I snuck in a seventh photo, the cover photo at the very top of the post. It’s from my sail on the Clearwater this summer, which I thoroughly enjoyed.)
I have lived long enough to have learned, too, that what is beautiful and joyful is almost always fleeting and must never be squandered. That rejection rarely bears any relationship to worth. That whatever else might separate us, sharing a love for “Ted Lasso” is enough common ground to start the harder conversations. That life is too short to wear uncomfortable shoes.

A beautiful group of photos to decorate your place! <3
Thanks Annie. Love your photos. You sent us to Oliver Lee and we loved it. Hoping to be back in 2023.
So glad you loved Oliver Lee, it’s such a happy place for me.
As beautiful as all of your photos are, I don’t know how you chose just six to hang in your camper. The sunset at Oliver Lee is breathtaking!
Thank you! I use mattes on command strips to mount the photos on the wall, so theoretically, I can change them out whenever I want something new. It only took me a year to get around to printing out new photos!
I understand completely.
It’s hard to pick a favorite! I think I’ll go with the Hudson River sunset, since I’m a sucker for sunsets.
Love the photos
Beautiful and peaceful choices! Lovely!
Beautiful pictures! Especially the one from Kerr Lake. And the one from Oliver Lee. Actually all of the .
These are amazing. And a whole year of camping is pretty amazing too! Sounds like you had a great year!
Stunning
YOU are the quintessential traveler, because when you look at things you give them the time and attention to truly see them
These photos are gorgeous! Thank you for sharing them!
And thank you for your earlier recommendation for Oliver Lee – we stayed there last spring based on your glowing review and it did not disappoint!
I really love that last one where the lake looks like glass. Every time I see a bird of paradise, I remember there was one outside my calculus class in college. Someone had taken an ink pen and drawn the perfect eye on it. It was gorgeous.
I was compelled to zoom in on the NM mountains photo and really looked it over. I imagined I was running the hills and kayaking the water. I think I see a Thunderbird (at 9:00)! Thank you for sharing your awesome adventures and beautiful photos!
Lovely photographs. As beautiful as they are, the memories they evoke for you make them shine.
