It’s been a quiet — and somewhat lazy — week here at Casa Alto. Today, for example, consisted of errands, groceries, laundry, and a long walk on the beach before the rainclouds moved in.

I’ve been walking on the beach every day, enjoying the wind and waves, and the bits of seashells and rocks I’ve been collecting. And dodging the little plovers who hang out here, too. I love them.

My favorite bird, the much bigger pelican, has been much in evidence this week. I wish I had a bigger, better lens to capture their power and grace.

And to finish out this trio of birds, here’s a Cooper’s Hawk that was circling the campground this afternoon. He came to rest on a post next to my trailer and I slowly approached till my zoom got a good enough shot before he stared me down and took off. Such beautiful feathers!

I’ll close with another photo of the beach, this one at sunrise, one of the few times I was actually up and out walking in time to catch the sun showing up.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is relax.

Happy to hear that, Vida, thank you for letting me know. Hope you are well and I miss talking with you.
Ah, thank you, Ellen!
Oh Annie your photos are so evocative. They are what I needed to see tonight.
Stunning, evocative nature photography, Annie.
I like all of your photos and the hawk takes today’s prize for me.
Thanks. Love the photography and narrative. Feel like I am on the beach, too.
