In the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, there are several caverns you can visit. I chose Luray Caverns because (1) it was right on my way north and (2) it advertised a Stalac-pipe Organ and how could I resist that? This place is smaller and not as deep as Carlsbad Caverns (120 feet down compared to Carlsbad’s 700+ feet below ground) but you get way closer to the formations and so that was a big win for me. Luray has a big, shallow pool that does amazing reflections of the stalactites hanging down (above and the photo at the top of…

Blue Ridge Parkway
My last two days Have been spent driving north on the Blue Ridge Parkway, from North Carolina to the Mile 0 in Virginia. In those 250 miles, I saw so much it was hard to pick just a few images. The road is one lane each way, with a maximum speed of 45 mph and no commercial traffic permitted, so it was perfect for me. I could toodle along, pull out at overlooks to let the few cars go by me, and take photos to my heart’s content. I loved this combination of fence and trees. The parkway is so…
Sunday Serenity: Tribes
After half a year of anticipation and with left hand in a cast, I finally made it to the rally in North Carolina. Over 100 people and more than 40 Alto trailers came together for a weekend that celebrated online friendships turned real-life meetups. It may look from this photo like I was all alone, but… … I definitely was not! It was so sweet to walk around the campground loop and see 95% Altos, instead of big RV buses, fifth-wheels, or vans. For the weekend, Stone Mountain State Park was Alto-Land and it was awesome. One of the coolest…
Southern Tour: It’s Bristol, Baby!
Let’s take a trip to one of the most iconic race tracks in America, the legendary Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee. It was just a quick hop up the road from where I was camping, so I figured let’s go! For the tiny sum of four dollars, I got to see everything. Well, everything a race fan cares about. This is the view from the parking lot where all the VIPs get to park. They get a nice view, don’t they? The thing about Bristol is, everybody gets a nice view once you’re inside. It’s a short track, half mile…
Stained Glass
When I was little, the church down at the end of our street was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Tall, narrow stained glass windows that seemed absolutely magical when the light poured through them. I haven’t thought about that church in years, until today, when I found an open door in downtown Terre Haute. Strange how a door can open into a building and flash you all the way back to being eight years old. There were old-school wooden pews and slightly padded kneelers that could have come direct from the church of my childhood in Southern California….
