Gainesville Flowers
Seeing as I’m in Gainesville (the Florida one) for the next who-knows-how-many weeks, I have been exploring the local scene. Now that bars and restaurants are all closed, the local scene is mostly what I see on my daily walks through the neighborhood. It *is* Florida, so the flowers are all out, the temps are hitting highs in the mid 80s, and my walks are earlier in the day to avoid the heat and humidity. Silurian Dry Lake, CA
For some reason, I really felt drawn to the dry lake near the Silurian Hills, about 20 miles off I-15 and the town of Baker. I ended up staying one night with friends and then went back for two more nights on my own, bookending my stay in Death Valley with some way-off-the-grid boondocking.
Oliver Lee State Park, NM
Ah, the calm before the storm, at one of my favorite places, Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, about eight miles south of Alamogordo, New Mexico. Just seeing this familiar mountain as I drove towards the park filled me with happiness.
Going Off the Road
tl;dr: I’m fine. Trailer is mostly fine. Subaru is driveable. And the whiskey bottle didn’t break either 🙂 In the beginning While driving from Alamogordo, New Mexico to Fort Davis, Texas last week, I ran into with gusty winds with no warning, had a sway situation, and went off the road about 10 miles away from Fort Davis. Before I left that morning, I had read the weather forecast closely, as I always do. The winds around Ford Davis were predicted to be 15-20 miles an hour.
