I scribble words onto the screen, I capture the images I see, I look for beauty in everyday life. I’ve been a sailor, a project manager, a tech writer, a programmer, and since May 2016, I have been a vagabond traveling in a 17-foot travel trailer.

2018: Six Camping Spots

Posted on December 26, 2018March 27, 2021 by Annie

When I lived in a “sticks and bricks” house, I kept a wooden bowl on the counter where I’d drop ticket stubs, boarding passes, and other trivia of life as the year progressed. During the last week of the year, then, I’d empty it out onto the dining room table and see what to make of that year. Now my memories are more digital: photos of places, people, flowers, trees, and everything I see as I travel around the continent. I’m ending 2018 with a countdown series of posts that looks back at different aspects of my year. This is…

Weekly Update: Dec 19, 2018

Posted on December 19, 2018December 19, 2018 by Annie

It’s been a quiet week but strolling around Gainesville provides a lot of photo ops, so this week features the strange and wonderful city that is my recently adopted home. Gainesville has a ton of trees, of all sizes and shapes, and when the sun is out, it pays to look up at the treetops. The local utility has a plant in town and this week I finally went down there to take some shots. It has great potential for future photo sessions.  Another day, I stumbled across Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, the home of the oldest black congregation…

Ode to Monterey Bay

Posted on December 17, 2018August 30, 2020 by Annie

I spent last week hanging out in my old hometown of Aptos, a quick visit sans trailer to catch up with some friends and celebrate the birthday of one newly-minted teenager. And get some beach time along the shores of Monterey Bay.  It’s beautiful in the morning, when few but the wanderers and runners are out on the sand at low tide. And it’s lovely in the middle of the day, especially when the surf’s up a bit. It really is best at sunset. Crowds gathered almost every time to enjoy the show. Can you blame them? The beach is…

Sunday Serenity: The Book

Posted on December 2, 2018 by Annie

Staying in one place for a while has already begun to reap benefits. I’ve had the time the past week to work on a book of my favorite Sunday Serenity posts. Topics include Time, Focus, Passion, Loss, Memories, and and four more. Click on the graphic below to jump over to Shutterfly where you can buy a copy. I don’t make any money on Shutterfly books. If the price is too high for your budget, try waiting till they have a sale or a deal; they have been running deals since Cyber Monday and probably will most of December. (It’s not…

Weekly Update: Nov 28, 2018

Posted on November 28, 2018 by Annie

I have to say, living in Florida definitely beats those cold northern temps my friends have been enduring lately. I almost hate to post this photo of me and my friend, Sherry, kayaking on Friday. Almost. We explored the waterfront of Sarasota Bay and saw two dolphins (mother and child), one osprey diving for food, several pelicans (YAY!), and one wedding (onshore). Sarasota is a new place for me, and this Ringling mansion (winter home of one of the Ringling Brothers of circus fame) was definitely the fanciest building I’ve seen in a while. Sherry and her husband were hosting…
