I scribble words onto the screen, I capture the images I see, I look for beauty in everyday life. I’ve been a sailor, a project manager, a tech writer, a programmer, and since May 2016, I have been a vagabond traveling in a 17-foot travel trailer.

Sunday Serenity: Creativity

Posted on August 18, 2019August 17, 2019 by Annie

While in Denver, I spent time at one of my favorite places, the Art Museum. I was captivated by two exhibits in particular and how creative the artists were in the mediums they had selected.  First up is Jonathan Saiz, who made 10,000 tiny paintings… and then assembled them into this large column that is magnificent to walk around. I slid closer, then stood back, and watch patterns emerge with each movement.  It is a huge piece so here’s the scale of it, thanks to a few visitors on the left side.  Each of the 10,000 tiny pieces of art…

Small Towns: Dubois, WY

Posted on August 15, 2019August 22, 2019 by Annie

Before heading up to the Grand Tetons and a five-day stint of boondocking (camping without any electric or water connections), I spent two nights at a KOA in Dubois, Wyoming, doing errands, using their wifi to finish some work, and stocking up on groceries and gas. First off, the town’s name is pronounced DO-boys, with the accent on “DO”. Of all the ways I thought you could pronounce it, this wasn’t one I’d thought of, but the three ladies at the P.O. all said it that way and they are the local authorities on such things. The KOA has tepees…

Wyoming Trains

Posted on August 13, 2019 by Annie

The long, straight roads in eastern and central Wyoming are perfect places to do some trainspotting while driving. The last few weeks, I’ve seen a lot of long, long trains going by me as I drove on back roads.  I was driving so I couldn’t count the cars but some went on for 5-7 minutes, me heading north while they headed south.  A few engineers noticed my Subaru and Alto slowing down and snapping pics out the window and gave me a whistle. I waved back and sometimes got a second whistle, as if to acknowlege we were both lonesome…

City Life: Denver

Posted on August 10, 2019 by Annie

Sometimes, you just gotta get away from nature and spend a weekend in the city, right? It’s kind of backwards to how most people think: they live in the city and get away to the country on the weekend. But when your life is all about forests and trees and campgrounds and the open road, a few days in the center of civilization can be quite the vacation. First, I had to find a temporary home for Breeze. She spent the weekend at an RV storage facility southwest of Denver, where she was kept company by Airstreams, Winnebagos, Casitas, and…

Fighting the Heat

Posted on August 5, 2019March 30, 2021 by Annie

Note: This is one of those posts that probably only interest Alto owners or owners of small trailers that heat up in the sun like a tin can. On the other hand, if you are sweltering through a fiery hot summer, you might enjoy the machinations of a fellow sufferer, especially one who insists on living in a tin can.  Most of the year in the US, excluding the sweltering months of July and August, my trailer looks like this: door and windows open, fan going to keep things cool inside.  If I’m stopped for more than a few days,…
