Tuesday Trees: South Carolina

Posted on February 5, 2019April 2, 2019 by Annie

One of my photography projects this year is focusing on trees, and so here’s some of the trees of coastal South Carolina. Live oaks can be strange and wonderful and I’m mesmerized by the shapes they take.

This hiking trail isn’t far from the beach, as you might guess by the sandy ground. All the trees on the left side along this part of the trail are slanted to the right, but I’ve no idea why.

The image below is the same trees as the first shot, a few days later. The lighting and shadows make the trail a sort of sculpture park and I walk it often to see how it looks at different times of the day and in different weather.

I don’t know how these trees figured out to grow this way, whether it was a series of storms over time or something else. Was there one mother tree and these are the offspring? I can’t see a stump of a mother tree but these are all definitely siblings in the way they are intertwined. Ah, the mysteries of trees!

To be poor and have trees, is to be completely rich in ways that money can never buy.

Annie, the first and third pictures remind me of Chihuly glass sculptures. These are magnificent! Blessings to you my friend!

Trees are lovely to photograph, with light and shadow changes as each hour passes. These are beautiful.
