Grand Canyons of the Whatever

Posted on July 23, 2022November 30, 2022 by Annie

Everyone knows about THE Grand Canyon, right? That one in Arizona where the Colorado River looks like a tiny silver thread because it’s so far down there. The one where you can’t even see from rim to rim because it’s THAT BIG. Well, it seems like not everyone has enough respect for THE Grand Canyon because there’s a lot of “the Grand Canyon of <geographical area>” going around. It’s all nonsense, this “Grand Canyon of the Whatever” talk. Let’s take a look at some of the contenders…

Autism Nature Trail, NY

Posted on July 21, 2022November 30, 2022 by Annie

One of the most interesting things about Letchworth State Park in western New York is the Autism Nature Trail (ANT), designed to give autistic kids time and space to experience nature in the ways most comfortable to them. Swope Art Museum, IN

Posted on July 18, 2022November 30, 2022 by Annie

Tucked away in a two-story building in downtown Indiana is a little gem of a museum, the Swope. And, by golly, it’s also free. (They have a cool donation station where you dip your card to donate $5 but it’s not at all a high-pressure deal). I went to see a photography exhibit on the second floor but I was also captivated by the Indiana Impressionists special exhibit on the first floor. And it’s not every day that you walk straight into a Renoir, either.

Midwestern Backroads

Posted on July 15, 2022November 30, 2022 by Annie

Since leaving Arkansas in early June, I’ve driven 99% back roads to get from place to place. From Missouri to Illinois, Kentucky to Indiana, and on to Ohio, it’s been a slow roll and scenic set of rides. And it is so much more relaxing for me to go 45-55 mph with no one in my rearview mirror much of the time.

Five Photos

Posted on July 13, 2022November 30, 2022 by Annie

You might have noticed that I take a lot of photos 🙂 Some of my favorites never make it into a post. So here are five photos from the last several weeks that deserve a showing. All of them were taken with my new iPhone13, which — I’ll be honest — I mostly bought for the cameras, especially since I cracked the lens on my iPhone12 a while back and so one of its two cameras was kind of unpredictable (think “unwanted lens flare”). This one was an experiment using the phone camera in macro mode. I’m really impressed with…
