2018 Top Ten

Posted on January 20, 2019August 30, 2020 by Annie

For the last five years, I’ve made a concerted effort to take at least one photo a day. Sometimes it’s a silly one that captures the day… Most of the time, though, times I put more effort into it. At the end of the year, I pick the 10 best as an exercise to see how my photography practice has improved year on year. So, without further ado, here’s thumbnails of 2018’s top 10 images. Bonus: You can get full-sized images of them at my smugmug site. Twelve significant photos in one year is a good crop. Ansel Adams

Tree Bones

Posted on January 18, 2019August 30, 2020 by Annie

Florida, as it turns out, has barrier islands, too, and that’s where I’m exploring this week. My first beach walk was fantastic – all kinds of downed trees and branches, the remnants of hurricanes that have hit this coast steadily over the years. There are some seriously twisted shapes on this beach and I need to come back here with my good camera and play around. This is my favorite one so far. It looks like a witch might look if a witch was a tree. Stay tuned for more… The Coastal Images Tour has just started and all sorts…

On the Road Again

Posted on January 14, 2019August 30, 2020 by Annie

The Alto has been liberated from its backyard spot, the hitch is back on the Subaru, and I woke up this morning to this view… Yes, I’m on the road again. Two and a half months in Gainesville was a wonderful refresher. I caught a few music shows, checked out an arts and crafts fair, borrowed a zillion paper library books, walked all over town, and, most fun of all, hung out with my friends and their friends. More importantly, I had time to think about how I want to go forward, and why, and those were questions I needed…

Less and More

Posted on January 8, 2019April 2, 2019 by Annie

I’ve been debating my social media activities for the last several weeks. Instead of being fun, keeping up on various social media platforms feels like work. It feels like a lot of work and that’s the last thing I want. So I asked myself “What are my goals with social media?” Facebook keeps me in touch with friends from different past lives as well as my current one. As a vagabond, I find it a very handy way to keep tabs on what’s going on with people, from seeing baby Amelia’s monthly growth to wishing people happy birthdays to planning…

Themes and Travels

Posted on January 6, 2019August 30, 2020 by Annie

One of the ideas I’ve been mulling over while I’ve been on hiatus is how to think about my travels as something other than one long string of moves around the continent. So for 2019, I’ve decided to devote a few months at a time to specific themes. Within each timeframe, I’ll explore the theme in whatever ways I choose. If this sounds rather vague, it is intentionally so. I don’t want to pressure myself into a fixed plan with committed outputs like 3-4 blog posts a week. I want to go with the flow and see where that takes…
