Update: Mar 6, 2019

Posted on March 6, 2019March 6, 2019 by Annie

My pace has been picking up, and I’ve actually been in two different states this past week, so change is in the air. I left Huntington Beach State Park after my month’s stay, but not before one last picture of this lovely Live Oak I saw almost every day on my way to and from the beach. Then it was southward to Georgia, and the Savannah area. I’ve been to Skidaway Island State Park three times now, and each visit, I find something new to enjoy. On my previous visits, I had missed tree pollen season, the one thing that…

Sunday Serenity: Quiet

Posted on March 3, 2019April 2, 2019 by Annie

Not every day as a vagabond can be big and fabulous, full of adventures and amazing things to share. There’s laundry to be done, a kitchen to be cleaned, and, yes, even windows to wash. Other days are quiet, reflective, taking the time to think about life and things seen, and puzzle out, as all humans do, the whys and wherefores of the world. It was on one of those latter days, late in the afternoon, when I took this walk. Despite the pollen floating on the breeze (tree pollen is my personal kryptonite), I enjoyed the time to wander…

Southern Tour: Charming Charleston

Posted on February 26, 2019August 31, 2020 by Annie

Of all the places I’ve visited in the South, Charleston has to be up there in the top 10. Even though it’s a city, and I’m more of a trails and beach person, Charleston thoroughly charmed me in the space of three days. It’s a very walkable city, with good sidewalks. I recommend walking rather than driving because, well, city traffic, and because you don’t miss all the little quirky things that make Charleston special.  The independent bookstore, Blue Bicycle Books, had a clever Valentines Day-inspired piece of artwork that made every patron smile as they walked by. This appeared…

Foggy Morning Fun

Posted on February 21, 2019August 30, 2020 by Annie

Now you might think a foggy morning at the beach wouldn’t be that much fun and you might be right. Except that I have an iPhone app called Slow Shutter (meaning the camera takes longer, like 2-4 seconds, to capture an image). I played around with that app this morning, since it was so foggy all I could really see was the beach directly in front of me. I really like how these images turned out. They show the motion of the water: the surf breaking, the water approaching the high tide line, then receding. To see the essence of…

Monday Playday: Colors

Posted on February 18, 2019February 18, 2019 by Annie

I went out for a walk on the beach this morning, greeted by a damp chill that made me glad I had grabbed the warmer jacket and the fleece hat. There were few humans willing to brave the elements but the pelicans were having a great time soaring south on the wind. And then the light changed. Oh, man, the light was gorgeous.  All I had was my iPhone so I used it to capture what I could.  When I got home and downloaded the images, they were grainy but the colors were there. So I haven’t edited them at all….
