Scenes from New Mexico

Posted on December 27, 2021November 30, 2022 by Annie

After escaping from Colorado without having been snowed on this late in the season, I landed in the Santa Fe area, caming at Hyde Memorial State Park. (You might laugh at that opening line, but Colorado snowed on my in May and October both, back in 2017!) So far up in the mountains north of Santa Fe that you get no signal, it’s still worth it for the dark skies, the lack of noise (except the few cars that come through on their way to wherever that road goes after the campground), and the small size of the campground.

Scenes from Colorado

You can guess that it’s going to be an interesting drive day when the scenery looks like this and you haven’t even started climbing the mountains yet. Welcome to Colorado in mid-October, the state that just loves to dump snow on me.

2021 Fall Trip: Chapter 10 North Rim

Posted on December 17, 2021November 30, 2022 by Annie

I grew up going to Arizona, mostly the eastern part where my dad’s family was from, but we did make it to the Grand Canyon a few times. The South Rim, that is. Visiting the North Rim, then, was a new experience for me, and one I really enjoyed. Let’s just say it is WAY different than the South Rim, from smaller crowds and less traffic to broader views and, most importantly, a sense of wildness.
