Lighting Up the Trees

Posted on December 5, 2017August 30, 2020 by Annie

Golden hour is that magical time before the sun sets, where the light low across the horizon emphasizes the golden tones of anything it touches. As the sun was slowly disappearing over the hill at last night’s stop, I had enough time to take some shots. These two, and the one at the top, are the ones I liked the best. These two trees stood alone in an otherwise bare field, but with the right angle and the golden light, it’s clear they own that field. I love old trees, they are survivors. I walked almost all the way around…

Getting Ready to Write

Posted on October 29, 2017August 30, 2020 by Annie

Facing a big challenge starts with the commitment to do what is necessary to succeed, following by the preparations to ensure that the goal is reached. I’ve made the commitment and I’m almost at the end of the preparations. This post is one of the last things on my list before the challenge begins. November is NaNoWriMo time, also known as National Novel Writing Month. The challenge: 30 days, 50,000 words. I’ve finished it nine times out of ten, and found it to be creative, agonizing, frustrating, and fun. Having to produce an average of 1667 words per day means…

My Last Year – 2017 Edition

Posted on October 10, 2017August 30, 2020 by Annie

This is the first in what may become a yearly series, looking back at the places I’ve been in my last year and selecting my 10 favorite photos. The first cut had 70 photos, so it took me a while, and some hard choices, to get it down to just 10. (I figured if I published 70, no one would get past the first two or three!) A journey is a person in itself; no two are alike. And all plans, safeguards, policing, and coercion are fruitless. We find that after years of struggle that we do not take a…

Monday Musings: Fortune Cookies

Posted on August 21, 2017August 30, 2020 by Annie

My dinner Saturday night came with three fortune cookies, all apt for looking back at the year since I retired. I did take the chance to leave full-time work and strike out on the vagabond trail with my little trailer. I’ve not been daring enough to do any boondocking on my own, so that’s a goal for the next year. That’s one chance I’ll be learning to take. I’m sure there are more ahead, I just can’t name them yet. Onward and upward! I originally thought endurance referred to the almost constant motion of being a vagabond but then the…

Color

Posted on August 11, 2017August 30, 2020 by Annie

I just watched a short video of Jim Carrey, the artist (yeah, also the actor and comedian) and it was fantastic to watch him playing with paint and color and form. It’s a short video, and I highly recommend watching the six-minute video if you need a boost, creative or otherwise. It inspired me to go find the most colorful things in my photo catalog, and it turns out they are from my favorite place in Seattle, the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum. And the things I have photographed the most, trying to find the perfect image, are the ikebana…
