St. Lawrence: By Land

Posted on June 28, 2023June 27, 2023 by Annie

I spent a week exploring the Thousand Islands region, first by land (this post) and then by water (the next post). It’s a huge place, actually, and it’s hard capture the scope of it, but I’ll try. At least I can capture some of the beauty.

Upstate NY Snapshots

Posted on June 26, 2023June 22, 2023 by Annie

I spent eight years in the Hudson Valley of New York, but never got to the really “upstate” part of New York back then. From the edge of Lake Ontario and on up the St. Lawrence Seaway, it’s been a really beautiful month, in between smoke alerts and surprise rainstorms. The cover photo for this post is one of the “thousand islands” dotting the Saint Lawrence River between the US and Canada.

Boldt Castle, NY

Posted on June 23, 2023June 22, 2023 by Annie

One of the more touristy activities up here in the Thousand Islands region of New York is visiting Boldt Castle. I found it to be a thought-provoking visit, with my ruminations about the experience taking me far out of the usual tourist mindset.

I probably never would have gone to see this thing if it hadn’t been for my friend, Kyle Sullivan.

Watkins Glen: A Day at the Races

Posted on June 18, 2023June 16, 2023 by Annie

Last year, I was at Watkins Glen camping, but the raceway was closed. This time, though, it was wide open on the weekend, hosting the SCCA circuit, which ranges from Mini Coopers to open-wheel to NASCAR-style stock cars. Oh, yeah, I had a great time and I’ll try to explain the reasons why.
