Almost every year since 2018, I’ve visited Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina and I always find new views to appreciate and new images to photograph. This year, I went with my Cape Cod friend, Peg, who came down for a long weekend. (Sorry about all that coastal fog, Peg!)
If I had a garden, I’d definitely want a sculpture like this in. Cattails and a heron, what’s not to like?

The style on this one was so bold and so detailed that I couldn’t resist trying to capture it and then edit the image so you can see the sculptural details. The material is much darker in real life but then you can’t see the all that detail.

Hanging paper globes in a courtyard is another thing I’d do, if I had a courtyard. They were gently swaying in the breeze, creating a picture of elegance and simplicity, with a big dash of fun.

The second day, we spent our time at the newly opened Art Deco exhibit. Lots of cool design items but these shoes slayed me. The combination of dress fabric and shoe design was absolutely perfect and it was my favorite thing in the entire collection.

Is there an exhibition or a museum near you that you’ve been meaning to get to and you just haven’t done it yet? Go on, do it. Seeing new things, or old things in a new light, changes you, makes you grow. And we can all use some of that in our lives.
You need today because there is more, because yesterday was not enough. Believe there is more to see and feel and do–and try your best to see it, feel it, do it.

Thanks, Chris, it’s on my list now!
Ack, I just miss you, darn it! Enjoy Brookgreen, it’s a lovely place!
Beautiful photos Annie. You have such a keen eye. Love them all!
Love, Love, Love Brookgreen! Always visit when in the area.
I haven’t been to a local museum, but once we move, I intend to go. However, just packing everything we own is letting me see some interesting stuff I forgot I had. We moved 7.5 years ago, and got rid of a lot then, but you wouldn’t know it. Love these pics, especially the sculpture.
We’re heading to Murrell’s Inlet next week…Brookgreen Gardens is definitely on our list. Thanks for the beautiful preview!
You have captured a few of my favorite things:) Looks like the road is treating you well so far.
If you make your way to central Ohio soon, check out the Topiary Park near the Main Library in the “Discovery District” near downtown. After his wife asked for a topiary garden in their backyard, Columbus sculptor James T. Mason got the idea to recreate Georges Seurat’s A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. They petitioned the City and boom – an amazing park was born. Each part of the painting is crafted out of shrubbery grown on bronze frames then trimmed to look like the image it represents i the painting. https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/the-topiary-park-columbus-ohio
This is my favorite post of yours in a while, cousin! I absolutely love each photo, especially the details of all the sculptures. Enjoy your 2024 travels.
I respectfully suggest “Grounds For Sculpture” in Mercerville, New Jersey. The grounds have a lot of things you might like to photograph and appreciate, based on the feeling these photos have.
