Seems like at least once a year, I make a stop in Lancaster, home to good friends with a flat driveway, a really nice guest room (and bathroom), and warm and wonderful hospitality. This time they even offered to watch Breeze and Luna while I did a long weekend in California (which will be the subject of a separate post).
One of the hallmarks of the Lancaster area is the abundance of Amish and Mennonite buggies. There’s etiquette to co-existing with them, primary of which is “don’t spook the horses” so people wait till the wagon turns off or there’s a good, long passing opportunity. Me, I don’t mind the line because it gives me more time to see the sights along the way. (Although passing in a pickup towing a trailer is an entirely different thing than just passing with a car!)
One such sight along the road was this Amish farmer cutting down the corn stalks at the end of the season. I barely got the horses in frame!
Another day, these stalks of corn, not yet felled, caught the light so well that I had my friend (who was driving) go down to a very slow roll so I could get the shot. Sometimes traveling with a photographer in the passenger seat isn’t all fun and games 🙂
Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road.

Wow! We are currently in DC, and drove through PA from our home in Michigan to get here. I LOVE driving through PA, it’s such a pretty state, even though we were on the turnpike most of the time. I also LOVE your image of the farmer cutting cornstalks. That’s beautiful!
Beautiful photos!
Lovely country!
Just an hour away from me – let me know when you’re there next!
I didn’t realize you were over in Carlisle till my last day, when your name came up talking with Peg (another Dead and my host). Oops! Maybe Early April…
Love this, Annie!
