When the sign gives you these directional choices, what else can you do but take the left and go to Canada? So I put on my left-turn blinker and Luna, Breeze, and I made a run for the border.
It’s a lovely bridge, even if it does look a bit like a portal to another dimension. But then Canada is another country, so maybe that’s an appropriate metaphor.

Now I was getting excited. I have not been out of the US since 2019. That might be the longest span of time I’ve spent in the USA since, uh, 1999. So many business trips abroad, along with some vacations, and my last passport needed extra pages added to it. This time, my passport is shiny new and no stamps at all to show where I’ve been. (I know, it’s all digital now and they don’t even have stamps at a lot of entry ports, I asked.)

There’s actually two bridges to cross the St. Lawrence and get to my destination in Ontario. That first bridge, the Seaway International Bridge, gets you to Cornwall Island, which is also part of the Akwesasne Mohawk reserve. That reserve straddles two borders: US/Canada and Ontario/Quebec. The second bridge, which takes you off Cornwall Island and into the Canadian port of entry in Cornwall, is a very different design. But, and this was kind of not fun with a trailer, we were stopped in the middle of the bridge because there was roadwork going on and it was one-lane shared by both directions. Luckily, it was not a windy day or I would have been nervous; wind on bridges when towing makes me nervous.

Got through the border check without the guy asking me if I had any guns (something about my Florida plates seems to make that question pop up a lot) and headed east to my next campground and my summer Canadian adventure. Onward!
The hardest thing in life to learn is which bridge to cross and which to burn.

I love the quote!
Enjoy, eh?
But did you make the right choice? Welcome to Canada Annie.
Well, crossing the bridge to Canada was better than the going to the psychiatric center. Bridges make me a little nervous too.
I’d love to meet up with you while you are within 1-2 hours away from Montréal for an afternoon Q&A, if you are so inclined.
The second image looks kind of like the Ambassador Bridge at Detroit/Windsor. My sister and I are going to be crossing the Blue Water Bridge at Port Huron MI over to Canada in mid-August to camp for a few days on the eastern shore of Lake Huron.
Sounds like a lovely summer ahead Annie. Enjoy!
I do think of you every time I go over a bridge!
I think I like the first bridge best. The second one looks scary!
