This campground on the lake has so much of the two things I most enjoy photographing: water and trees.

Did I say water? Yes, I did!

I’m enjoying the variety of trees, from a single massive trunk framing a sunset-tinged horizon to the more delicate stands now bereft of their foliage for the winter season.

Some images love to be color, especially those sunset ones, so I do minimal processing (mostly cropping to remove errant ducks or branches…) and put them go out into the world.

Sometimes, though, the tree demands post-processing, challenging me to find a different way to highlight the beauty of it. Bare limbs draped with Spanish moss are just so-so in color, but in black and white? Well, see for yourself. Takes on a whole different vibe, one that evokes late nights, tall tales, and perhaps a bootlegger in a rowboat just out of sight.

In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect. Trees can be contorted, bent in weird ways, and they’re still beautiful.

Gorgeous and I love the way you see them.
Thank you, Laura! I spent so much time in post-processing that one to capture the mysterious feeling that Spanish moss gives me.
You’re right about Spanish Moss in color. It’s always so beautiful in person, but incredibly difficult to photograph. The black and white image is just awesome! Striking and mysterious. Love it!
Southeast US, enjoying better weather than most of the rest of the US 🙂
Lovely lovely photos. They show up so beautifully on this new website.
I love these shots, Annie!
