Fall at Roan Mountain, TN

Posted on October 26, 2023October 23, 2023 by Annie

There are few places I enjoy as much as Roan Mountain, for a couple of reasons: beautiful mountain setting, good trails in the park and a short drive to the Appalachian Trail, and free, fast wifi (yes, I like my creature comforts!)

Mountain Flowers

Posted on October 23, 2023 by Annie

It’s definitely fall weather in the mountains of eastern Tennessee, but that’s the subject of another post. This one is all about the garden cosmos that are blooming on roadsides and in wild gardens next to clapboard houses and weathered mobile homes.

Sunday Serenity: Different View

Posted on October 8, 2023 by Annie

Sometimes it’s good to shake things up a bit, instead of staying with the old familiar things. I’d camped at Kerr Lake (Buggs Island Lake, if you prefer) a half-dozen times, but never this place. I had been all set to go to a familiar campground, a known campsite, but the potential for a government shutdown last week (which would include that campground) made me change my plans and stay at a state park instead. Sand Sculptures at Virginia Beach

Posted on October 5, 2023October 2, 2023 by Annie

Until last weekend, I’d never attended a sand sculpture contest, despite growing up not that far from the SoCal beach scene. I have now rectified that oversight and I’m suitabilty impressed by the creativity and mad skills of the people who make these things.

Revisiting the Past in California

Posted on October 2, 2023September 27, 2023 by Annie

I was born and raised in Southern California: Reseda, Torrance, Gardena, and Fullerton. I left in the fall of 1975 and never lived there again, but it’s still “home” when I think of where I came from and who I am now. I don’t go back there much any more since my Dad died in 2016, but my high school 50th reunion provided a reason to get back there at least one more time. So, trailer and truck safely stowed in Lancaster, off I went.
