Niagara Falls Redux

Posted on October 5, 2017April 2, 2019 by Annie

Last April, on the way from Seattle to Quebec to pick up my Alto, I stopped at Niagara Falls for a night, staying on the Canadian side and enjoying a hotel-room-view of the Horseshoe Falls. I found the whole “big loud water” thing amazing and decided that I’d be back someday. Yesterday was that day. I hit the American Falls this time, up close and personal. Niagara Falls is still freaking amazing. Here’s my favorite shot of the American Falls from my visit. And here is American Falls on the left and Horseshoe Falls back to the right. Last year,…

Weekly Update: Oct 4, 2017

Posted on October 4, 2017 by Annie

Wait, it’s October already? I was barely getting into September and now it’s already done. It’s been a hard week out in the big, wide world, so here on WynnWorlds, I am going to show some pictures of lovely places and leave out all the drama, except to say that I have a shiny new windshield on my Subaru (yes, again). I spent most of this week in the Finger Lakes, and it’s beautiful country, even if the fall colors didn’t make much of an appearance during my visit. The long weekend (Thu-Tue) was spent in the company of friends,…

Sunday Serenity: Keeping the Faith

Posted on October 1, 2017September 30, 2017 by Annie

A friend of mine is struggling right now, and it has me thinking how we often don’t see the thrashing and flailing involved in keeping one’s head above water. Social media is all about curating the perfect life, showing the good, and rarely or never mentioning the hard or lonely or difficult times. Those hard times can feel like climbing an endless mountain. So to help that friend, and anyone else who needs it today, this post is for you. See those waystations in the photo above? That’s where your friends are. Reach out and ask them to meet you…

Erie Canal

Posted on September 29, 2017April 2, 2019 by Annie

One of the iconic names in American history is the Erie Canal in upstate New York. From 1817 to 1825, men and horses dug a 363-mile path from the Great Lakes to the Hudson River, providing a faster way for goods to flow to and from the Northwest territories (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio). In providing a waterway to the heart of the continent, the Erie Canal changed history, providing a critical supply line during the Civil War and making New York the financial capital of the country. First, a short geography lesson. The image below shows the path of…

Weekly Update: Sep 27, 2017

Posted on September 27, 2017 by Annie

Where was I last week? Oh, right, in the Finger Lakes, trying to survive the heat and humidity while waiting for fall colors to pop. I’m till waiting… and still “enjoying” the humidity. It is pretty though, mostly wineries and farms, like this one, where you can see the sheep following each other out of the barn like, well, sheep. One of the most moving moments of my life came last Thursday, standing on the hallowed ground where the first Women’s Rights convention was held, in Seneca Falls, New York. My mother — married at 19, a mother at 20,…
