Spring Greens

Posted on April 16, 2019April 15, 2019 by Annie

Today’s post is brought to you by the color GREEN. It’s one of my favorite colors: teal, turquoise, turquoise, lime, emerald, seafoam, sage, mint. There’s no shade of green that I can’t love.  But, and this is the point of my post, nothing says green like the showy early leaves of Spring.   I’ve been camping in forests the last few weeks and I walk around every day with my mouth hung open at the explosion of green that surrounds me. I grew up in LA, people, and spring was NEVER like this. As my Brit friend would say, I’m gobsmacked…

Weekly Update: Mar 13, 2019

Posted on March 13, 2019August 31, 2020 by Annie

I’ve been a tourist this week, but in a quiet way. Making my way across Georgia, I lucked into a waterfront site with a view out the back window that was beautiful. The top photo (aka the cover photo) is that view, Lake Blackshear in the morning as the fog burned off and the sun rose. Some of the touristing was catching the weird stuff, like the Ray Charles monument in Albany, Georgia. It plays his hits, no kidding. When I showed up at the campsite near Montgomery, Alabama, I passed the entrance to Montgomery Motor Speedway. No events scheduled…

Foggy Morning Fun

Posted on February 21, 2019August 30, 2020 by Annie

Now you might think a foggy morning at the beach wouldn’t be that much fun and you might be right. Except that I have an iPhone app called Slow Shutter (meaning the camera takes longer, like 2-4 seconds, to capture an image). I played around with that app this morning, since it was so foggy all I could really see was the beach directly in front of me. I really like how these images turned out. They show the motion of the water: the surf breaking, the water approaching the high tide line, then receding. To see the essence of…

The Shape of Trees

Posted on January 25, 2019August 30, 2020 by Annie

I pulled into the Hunting Island campground and made camp so quickly that it’s only the next morning I realized I didn’t put on the hitch lock, tuck away the electronics, or even fill up the water tank. Why the rush? After two hurricanes along this stretch of coast last fall, I was anxious to see if my favorite tree was still standing. I fairly flew down the beach, straining my eyes against the bright sun, hoping against hope it had withstood the onslaught of both Florence and Michael. Then, suddenly, there it was. The beach was thoroughly chewed up…

2018 Top Ten

Posted on January 20, 2019August 30, 2020 by Annie

For the last five years, I’ve made a concerted effort to take at least one photo a day. Sometimes it’s a silly one that captures the day… Most of the time, though, times I put more effort into it. At the end of the year, I pick the 10 best as an exercise to see how my photography practice has improved year on year. So, without further ado, here’s thumbnails of 2018’s top 10 images. Bonus: You can get full-sized images of them at my smugmug site. Twelve significant photos in one year is a good crop. Ansel Adams
