Some days are just so perfect that you just don’t want them to end. Today has been one of those days. I’m sitting outside under tall pine trees that shade me just right, watching the sunlight filtering through, and thinking how relaxing it was to paddle this morning with a long-time friend (34 years and counting, I think…) and take photos as we talked about whatever came to mind.
The water lilies that had eluded me all week finally opened up today, and there were dozens to choose from, if only I could get close enough.
Here’s my friend, aiming at that elusive water lily in the foreground. I’m pretty sure she didn’t know I was snapping her and the scenery!
I love this next shot because it’s everything about life: one perfect thing surrounded by things that are so not perfect. But without them, that water lily wouldn’t exist. It’s that combination of perfect moments and all those other moments that add up to a life.
My friend caught me checking the camera roll, probably hoping I got that last water lily without my paddle getting in the way.
Oh, look, I did!
We drifted, we paddled, the light breeze both helping and hindering our way around the pond. After an hour, we headed back in, ready to face the rest of the day, the week, whatever, because we had this oh-so-perfect moment.
That perfect day, that magic moment that we’re all waiting for, is right now.

How beautiful, and definitely serene.
Happy for you both. Thank you!
Beautiful shots, Annie! Wow!
Looks so peaceful and refreshing. Those water lilies are beautiful. Nice day!
Unbelievable water lily photos Annie!…have never seen nicer ones than yours.
Wow, thank you for that wonderful compliment, Dale!
What a beautiful day, and gorgeous photos!!
I adore water lilies. This might be my favorite of your posts ever. As Thich Nhat Hahn said, “No mud, no lotus.”
Wonderful! You got some beautiful images, and lots of good memories too. I’m always afraid I’ll drop my phone or camera in the water, but if I go for a paddle without either of them there is always something I wished I had them for!
Beautiful, and just the reminder I needed in the midst of unpacking chaos. ❤️
thanks for sharing your serenity
Love love love this. And you nailed that water lily photo. Thank you for a fun and relaxing last vacation day. (34 years, really?? Here’s to 34 more)
Just lovely!!!
