It’s felt both like forever and just a few weeks, this summer of 2023. Kids are back in school, campgrounds are emptying out during the week, and I just saw my first golden leaf fall from a tree. So I guess I better share these summer photos before we slide into fall.
Both the top photo and this one below are from my time in Freeport, Maine. The light was just so perfect that one afternoon and I took a couple dozen shots as I walked this point of land. Both of them remind me that I need to spend more time in Maine next year.
Sometimes photography practice, like foreground focus and background bokeh, makes for an unexpectedly lovely shot. This is from a riverfront walk in St-Georges, Quebec. Something about that purple and yellow just makes me so happy.
A few hundred miles south, same idea, only with thistles and the Atlantic Ocean near Narragansett, Rhode Island.
A rainy day in the campground in Andover, Mass, didn’t give me much hope of a shot, but then the sun managed to break through and light up the trees for just a few minutes. I managed to get a few shots, then the clouds won and this beautiful light vanished.
I’ve traveled so much in my life that I sometimes forget that there are people, like my nephew, who haven’t seen the Atlantic Ocean. He’s seen it now, thanks to that trip a few weeks back, so this shot is for anyone who has never seen it. It kind of looks like the Pacific, to be honest, only you get great sunrises rather than great sunsets 🙂
I hope you’ve enjoyed these snapshots of my summer travels. Soon enough, it will be fall, and we’ll be pulling out sweatshirts and jeans, hats and gloves. And I’ll still be taking photos because it’s what I do.
August is like the Sunday of summer.

These are all beautiful, Annie. I love the one of the boats in Freeport, Maine. It’s not the boats that grab my attention, but the way the light plays on the grass in the foreground. Stunning!
Love it! AND I learned a new word. Who knew about the bokeh effect? You did!! Now I just need the right hand to play it in scrabble…
Beautiful Maine!
These are great. I’ve only seen the Atlantic Ocean two times in my life. Time for another trip?
Could be!
