Christmas Lights

Posted on December 23, 2022December 21, 2022 by Annie

I wasn’t expecting to find holiday lights when I decided to stay a few nights at Suwannee River State Park. But that’s exactly what I found when I searched for things to do nearby…

I bought a ticket online and then headed over to the Suwannee Lights display about 7PM on Sunday (tickets were slightly cheaper Sun-Thu), thinking it would be less crowded. I was kind of wrong on that score; it was a 15 minute wait to get my ticket scanned and then another 10 minutes or so before I actually entered the display area. But… it was TOTALLY worth it!

It was a slow roll through what is normally a camping area.  But, for the month of December, it becomes transformed into eye candy of the most fun kind. Carols play in tune to the theme of each area, from Hark the Herald Angels Sing to the 12 Days of Christmas. Even though it was cold, leaving the windows cracked open just a bit let the music in so I could get even more into the holiday spirit.

The photos aren’t always in perfect focus because technically, you’re not supposed to stop along the drive. But, with all the cars, there are inevitable stoppages and so I tried to time mine to the displays next to me. Sometimes it worked out… sometimes, not so much. Still fun, though!

Happy holidays to everyone who celebrates this season!

Christmas lights bring out the child-like wonder hiding in the hearts of adults.

We took a car ride on Fulton St in Palo Alto, which has our favorite holiday displays.https://www.christmastreelane.org/gallery
I’m pretty sure they don’t have a Christmas alligator.

I’ve enjoyed following you a lot, and I wonder if I can ask two basic questions: Is your name Annie Wynn? And secondly, do you ever go to Florida in winter. We love the “Nature Coast.” No theme parks or high rises, but very few beaches. Just swamps to paddle in, plus bike trails and nature preserves. My husband Jack and I would love to see you there!
