Retreat: Withdraw to a quiet or secluded place.
The desert is a beautiful place to get quiet and think, and that’s exactly what I did for four days.

The hiking trail that encircled the campground was usually all mine and I walked at all times of the day to see the different light on my surroundings.

This rock, balanced on top of a pile of them, about 30 feet high, made me reflect on balance in life every time I walked by it. It’s been up there since this place was formed millions of years ago. Weather has carved away the material around it, but still it holds its position.

The yucca flowers have come and gone for the year but beauty remains in what is left.

Sometimes it was looking down and seeing the beauty in something so small and fragile. Look closely, can you see the grasshopper?
My impromptu retreat ended yesterday as I headed to a month of socializing with family and friends, but I will carry its beauty and peace forward in my heart.
Within you, there is a stillness, and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself.
Hermann Hesse

Amen sister! So glad you had this time. And I’m looking forward to seeing you soon! Be well.
