My niece Emma has sent me her Flat Emma as part of a school project, so I’m going to be showing her my favorite places in Seattle. Having Flat Emma here is a good excuse to explore some new places too, so I’m looking forward to that, too.
The first morning that Flat Emma was in Seattle, it was raining so we decided to take the bus to work. After all, Flat Emma is made of paper and paper does NOT like getting wet!
Here she is, waiting at the bus stop. We sat in front of the bus, because Flat Emma tends to get a little queasy in cars and busses and being up front helps a lot. She liked the nice bus driver too.
Flat Emma got a little bored while I was working at my computer, so while I went to a meeting, I let her do some shopping at Amazon.com. It’s easy, because that’s also where I work!
She couldn’t find any Flat Clothes or Flat Shoes, though. She suggested that I tell Amazon to put more Flat items for sale because there are lots of Flat kids out there that would like to have a change of clothes and some fancy shoes.
After that, Flat Emma sat on the window shelf for a while and looked out at the tall buildings. She said her hometown of Osceola does not have any buildings as tall as these buildings in Seattle. She liked counting how many stories high each building was. When I told her we were on the 20th floor in our building, she was a little nervous looking down at first, but then she liked it and started waving to the little people down on the sidewalks below us. She saw lots of dogs, too. People in Seattle love their dogs. They even bring them to work. That reminds me, I have to introduce Flat Emma to my favorite dog at work, Skittles!
When work was done for the day, Flat Emma and I walked home because the sun was shining and the sky was blue. Everyone is very happy in Seattle to see blue skies because it rains a LOT here in the winter time.
Today was the first day of Spring, so we were all happy to have some sunshine in the afternoon after the rainstorm last night and this morning.
As we were halfway home, Flat Emma looked up and let out a yell! “I see it, I see it!” she yelled. I looked up and yes, we were at the Space Needle! So I just had to get a picture of her in front of the Space Needle. Don’t worry, we’ll have more pictures of that, and we’ll even go all the way up to the top and see the view!
It was a busy first day for Flat Emma in Seattle! I think she had a really fun time. When I was writing this, she fell asleep so I tucked her into her new bed and now she’s sleeping very soundly, getting rested before her next set of adventures.
Good night, Flat Emma!
And if you wake up in the middle of the night, look out the window and you can see the Space Needle’s red light blinking at you!
