I worked on these photos a while back and then forgot to actually post them. Doh! So enjoy them now, whether you’re in the midst of weather goblins wreaking havoc with your life or maybe just recovering from a difficult day.
This is a closeup of a day lily from my friend Peg’s garden in Lancaster, PA. While the flowers are so colorful, that very fact somtimes takes away from the complexity of the petals and stamen.
I love how you can see the fuzzy bits in B&W, instead of focusing on the red petals in the original shot.
Below, I left a very pale pink in the image, just enough to add some definition to the center of this flower.
And then there’s this seagull, contemplating the vagaries of the universe as they stand on the beach and watch the tide recde. I’ll be right there with him in a few more weeks.
Color is descriptive. Black and white is interpretive.

Wonderful!
These are all beautiful. I find that black and white photos are distraction-free – busy, colour-saturated pictures can confuse the eye—sometimes there’s simply too much going on. Black and white images on the other hand can seem refreshingly simple and it’s often easier to see and interpret the main focus of the picture. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx
Nice! It certainly does take your eye in a different direction.
You realize that you’re going to have to make a B&W quilt some day. 🙂
I just love the seagull! Thank you.
Interesting perception of these photos. So enlightening.
