Nine minutes from my trailer to the boat launch, including one steep uphill at the start to get out of the campground loop and one just-as-steep downhill to arrive at the boat launch, with a clear view of the western sky and horizon, the perfect place to watch a sunset.
After the first few minutes, I can see the sun descending through the thicket of trees that stands between me and the water. I quicken my pace, hoping I won’t miss the big show.
The camping loops on either side of the boat launch are closed, so I walk alone, listening to the birds overhead, the wind shaking the dead leaves of winter and enjoy the tiny new green leaves of Spring just starting to bud out.
I notice the the silence, the stillness. No cars, no chattering campers or country music floating across the loop. Just me, taking an evening stroll.
I watch the sun slide down the sky, changing the colors around it from yellow to gold to orange and deep blue.
After the sun sinks ever so slowly into the low clouds on the horizon, I walk back to my trailer in silence. The songbirds are silent, the flock of Canada geese have winged their way west across the sky. Yes, I think to myself, this was definitely worth the walk.
When your world moves too fast, and you lose yourself in the chaos, introduce yourself to each color of the sunset. (Christy Ann Martine)
I love the way you stay silent, letting the sounds from your surroundings wash over you. I find that silence amplifies my sense of awe/wonder.
Lovely meditation. Thanks! Saved me from the chaos of moving.
So peaceful and serene. Going for a hike myself today to see if any wildflowers are up yet!
Hope you find some!
Sunsets are almost always worth the walk.
“Just me” + sunset = serenity. Thanks for sharing Annie. Beautiful.
Where is this picture taken? What a beautiful spot to relax and enjoy nature. I love the quote you added…I watch the sun slide down the sky, changing the colors around it from yellow to gold to orange and deep blue.
