While I was camping at Blomidon in Nova Scotia, my friend Andrew took me down the road a piece to what he said was a magical little place. And indeed, it was! I’m totally stealing his name for these little cottages: Smurf Houses.
The stones are all colored by hand, over time, set into concrete. It’s amazing to look at and think about how long it took and how creative the person/people who did it.
Each house is different, as if each expresses a different personality for whoever might want to rent one. Find the house that fits you!
This is the one that fit me. It looks out on a wide lawn that ends at the beach, so a wonderful view of the Bay of Fundy 24/7. Also, that fence of woven driftwood branches is pretty amazing.
The house next door wasn’t quite as cool as the others, looking like it had been “updated” with newer windows and such. But it still sported the distinctive chimney, making it part of the neighborhood.
It’s great when the locals can steer you to a place no one mentions in tourist guides. Thanks, Andrew!
I don’t care if colors clash. Personality should be reflected in a house.
