I’ve been captivated by reflections for a few years now. Seeing things from a different perspective is also something I have worked on in many areas of my life for the last several years.
A scene can be mundane when I look at it straight on, but its reflection changes everything. It can make the view seem mysterious or even magical. It definitely changes the way I think about that scene.
In the image below, the line of bare trees intersected by a flash of green look like a reflection at first glance. My eyes saw it as that, but my mind said I was looking up 50 feet in the air, so it clearly could not be a reflection in water. Funny how what my eyes see see and what my mind knows to be real can clash then reconcile so quickly. Life would certainly be easier if it worked that way in many areas – seeing truth more easily, not being so distracted by the reflection.
When I stand in front of a scene like this, my eyes go up and down, judging which view is more interesting: the reality or the reflection?
In truth, both views have something to offer. Seeing reality is good, but seeing what could be or what might be offers a path into a new future.
Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.
