I’m still hanging out in Lancaster while fitting in a few weeks of hand therapy. The good news is the doctor is pleased with the healing so far and doesn’t see any permanent damage. The bad news is the hand doesn’t work very well yet. I am learning patience and persistence. And lots of OT exercises. All day, every day. So if you see someone flexing their hand and staring off into space as they walk by you, they may not be nuts. They may just be in the middle of hand therapy.
I can’t complain about my surroundings, though, as this is a beautiful place, starting with my Peg’s garden. Even the rain can’t make her flowers look bad.
One of the joys of staying with them last week was walking through it every morning and seeing the newest day lilies and other blooms, then playing around with my camera among the flowers.
I got in a bit of culture this week, first with a Natalie Merchant concert and then a matinee of the show “Newsies” at the beautifully restored Fulton Theatre in downtown Lancaster.
Sunday, I packed up Bella and Breeze and moved to the KOA where I figured out how to set up camp and even the awning with one good hand and one halfway-decent hand. Also my first use of new mats and new chair, both selected to be easier and smaller to pack up and stow in the back seat of the Subie.
And speaking of the Subaru, Bella got a new set of tires on Monday. Turns out if most of your driving involves towing a trailer behind you, the car tires need to be replaced more often. I could have gone another month, maybe, but I like to be cautious when it comes to the things that involve my life and all my worldly possessions, so getting four new tires was a no-brainer. Afterwards, of course I had to test them out just a bit taking the scenic way home.
And just because this photo didn’t make the cut for the Lancaster post yesterday, I’ll put it here because I really like it.
Same for this one… my “cat” towers have reappeared so far from where I first saw them as a kid, coming out of Hoover Dam. Makes it feel a bit more like home here.
Patience is a virtue, and I’m learning patience. It’s a tough lesson.

Glad to hear no permanent damage. Rod and I are just out of Twin Falls ID heading to Jordanelle State Park. Whoo its hot! Truck dog and 5th wheel doing great. Happy July
Good to hear you guys are on the road and Tucker and 5th wheel are behaving! Hope you get cool weather, looks like you’re going in the right direction for it. Enjoy!
I remember the cat people towers! Lovely photos accompanied by beautiful prose. Thanks Annie for capturing a little slice or two of the lovelies!
Love your pictures and the flowers are beautiful.
Thanks, M! My hand is good enough I can use my good camera some of the time, so flowers distract me from hand therapy (which sucks). Hope you get out of the cast soon…
Your steps are the YWCA. It serves as the women’s shelter as well, and sponsors Lancaster’s Race Against Racism, one of the town’s biggest races. A couple of my friends work there. It’s a good, good place.
