I feel like every week lately, I start my report by typing something along the lines of “this isn’t the week I had planned.” Here we go again…
This is not quite the week I had planned. It wasn’t a total wipeout, like the week before when I dislocated my finger. This week was more like a blowout. A tire blowout. Less than an hour after I finally got back on the road on Saturday.
The good news is I was OK, the car was OK, and the trailer too. I had a full-sized spare so the roadside assistance guy put it on and I drove the rest of the way to Louisville without incident.
Sunday, it turns out, is a day of rest for tire stores, so I relaxed and tried not to die in the heat and humidity. My friends Shawn and Ron picked me up for lunch and an impromptu tour of the city. I liked the bat the best…
Monday saw me at the tire place getting two new tires on my Alto, then heading south to make my way, hotel by hotel, to a Thursday meetup with a friend. Kentucky is green, damp, and full of people who call me sweetie, and every little town has a KFC store. Every single one, I swear.
I stopped at the Daniel Boone National Forest visitor center today and took a tiny walk between rainstorms today. It’s a gorgeous place, one of many I want to come back and visit, perhaps next Spring.
I’m doing OK as far as the hand goes. The one-week checkup was good, finger x-rays look good, so I have a follow-up appointment on the 30th to see if I can get this cast off. I would love that. My hand was so hot this afternoon that I literally laid it on top of the A/C in the hotel room.
To end this week’s report, here’s a lovely picture of my rig, Bella and Breeze, ready to go camping again. Me, too.
Unexpected adventure makes for a better story.

I bet the Alto blown tire club is pretty small. Great job handling an irritating situation!
And so the journey continues with bumps, pothles, smooth patches, and the unexpected. Hugs “sweetie.” 😉
Never a dull moment with you Annie…and that is a true testimony to your spirit. Travel on………
